For individuals with a body mass index below 30 or above 40, alternative treatment options may need to be considered. Additionally, individuals who do not meet these criteria but need to lose weight quickly due to health issues such as diabetes or cardiovascular diseases may be eligible for gastric balloon treatment based on the doctor's discretion.

What is a Gastric Balloon?

The World Health Organization defines obesity as the excessive accumulation of fat in the body. According to the criteria of the World Health Organization, obesity can be defined when the body mass index is above 30. It is well known that there are many health problems associated with the global epidemic of obesity. These include serious health problems such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and hypertension. Therefore, obesity needs to be treated not only for aesthetic purposes but also for a healthy life. Nowadays, there are many surgical and non-surgical options available for the treatment of obesity. The decision regarding which treatment to apply to an obese patient is made by considering factors such as the patient's height, weight, age, and general health condition under the supervision of an expert doctor. Gastric balloon is one of the commonly preferred non-surgical treatment methods for obesity. The main purpose of gastric balloon treatment is to reduce the amount of food consumed in a single meal and provide a long-lasting feeling of fullness. Gastric balloons are silicone devices that are inserted into the stomach and can remain there for a certain period of time. The gastric balloon procedure involves placing a deflated balloon into the stomach and then inflating it with saline or a biocompatible and approved blue dye. The inflated balloon occupies more than half of the stomach. The amount of inflation is determined during the procedure, considering that everyone's stomach structure and anatomy are not the same. The endoscopic gastric balloon procedure takes approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour.

How is Gastric Balloon Placement Procedure Done in Antalya / Turkey?

Before the gastric balloon is placed in the stomach, the patient undergoes a detailed evaluation by expert doctors. The patient's general health condition is examined, and any other stomach-related health problems are assessed through endoscopic imaging techniques. If any other health problems such as reflux, gastritis, or ulcers are detected during this examination, the existing health issue is treated first. Afterward, the gastric balloon can be placed. During the gastric balloon placement procedure, general anesthesia is not required. The patient is under sedation while the balloon is being placed. The patient does not experience any pain or discomfort during the procedure. Currently, gastric balloon can be placed in the stomach through two different methods:

ENDOSCOPIC GASTRIC BALLOON in Antalya / Turkey

During the endoscopic gastric balloon procedure, sedation is administered to make the patient more comfortable. Since the procedure is performed using an endoscopic technique, the patient is advised not to eat or drink anything for a certain period of time before the procedure. The necessary preparations before the procedure are explained to the patient. During the balloon placement stage, an endoscope, which is a thin and flexible tube with a camera at the tip, is inserted into the stomach, and the balloon is placed in the stomach. Then, the balloon is inflated with saline or a completely compatible and health authority-approved blue dye. The inflated balloon occupies approximately more than half of the stomach. Since everyone's stomach structure and anatomy are not the same, the decision on how much to inflate the balloon is made during the procedure. The endoscopic gastric balloon procedure is completed within approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour.

SWALLOWABLE GASTRIC BALLOON in Antalya / Turkey

While endoscopic gastric balloon treatment has been successfully applied for many years, swallowable gastric balloon or elipse gastric balloon procedures have gained prominence as alternative methods due to the lack of sedation during the procedure and the absence of endoscopic assistance. In the swallowable gastric balloon procedure, the patient swallows a capsule-shaped balloon attached to a thin wire in an uninflated state with plenty of water. For patients who have difficulty swallowing the balloon, the doctor can assist the patient in swallowing the balloon using a thin guide wire. Once the balloon reaches the stomach, the doctor verifies its correct placement through imaging methods such as X-rays. An apparatus resembling a thin wire at the end of the balloon allows for inflation of the balloon. The doctor ensures that the balloon is correctly positioned and proceeds to inflate the balloon using approximately 500 mL of water containing potassium sorbate. After inflating the balloon to the desired extent, the final position is rechecked. Following thorough checks, the apparatus at the end of the balloon is carefully removed by the expert doctor. The swallowable gastric balloon procedure takes approximately 20 minutes. Since no anesthesia is administered during the procedure, the patient can return to their daily life shortly afterward. The swallowable gastric balloon has a leak-proof and soluble valve. Approximately 4 months later, the valve dissolves, the fluid inside the balloon is emptied, and the deflated balloon passes through the intestines and is excreted from the body. Due to the absence of anesthesia and endoscopy during placement and removal, the swallowable gastric balloon is one of the preferred methods for patients who have been unsuccessful in losing weight through diet and exercise.

Non-surgical gastric reduction methods aim to reduce the volume of the stomach without any incisions or stitches, assisting patients in rapid weight loss. Methods such as swallowable gastric balloon are among the non-surgical gastric reduction methods preferred for the treatment of obesity. You are admitted straight away and the tests begin (they don't waste any time) after my surgery I was always checked on by the nurses/my surgeon and Irem. I had been contemplating having a gastric sleeve for over two years before actually taking the plunge. I have struggled with my weight for half of my lifetime and I have three young children I want to see grow up. I had followed a girl on social media who had booked through BHT. She gave me the contact info for a lady named Iram. She was very thorough when booking me in for surgery and was always there when I had questions about the procedure. The day fast approached and I was met at the airport by a private taxi, and Iram at the hospital even with it being a late night! I was admitted straight away and bloods taken. The following morning I was taken for all my pre-op tests and everything was explained along the way. I was then booked in for surgery that afternoon, which went very well. I spent 2 more nights in the hospital and one night at a hotel before travelling back to the UK. All the nurses were lovely, they tried their hardest to communicate and even used google translate to help. The hospital was lovely & clean, bed sheets were changed daily, and bins emptied 2/3 times a day. Was such a pleasant experience and everything went fab. I would recommend BHT to anyone wanting surgery abroad.

I used this surgery to have Top Surgery (double mastectomy with plastics) This clinic was amazing from start to finish, I can’t fault them in the slightest. I had full support before I even flew out. Then was waited on hand and foot from start to finish every day I was there. The hospital was so accommodating and couldn’t have asked for more. The hotel they provided for me was nothing but perfect to recover in.

I’m currently 2 weeks post op from a gastric sleeve and had the best experience with bridge health travel - I was helped the whole way through by Irem and really owe her so much for helping change my life! From the very start she was so helpful, supportive and caring! It was a massive reason why I picked this company as I had been whatsapping her for months and months before deciding to go ahead and I’m glad I did. My experience during my surgery all the way to going home was also very good. The team and surgeon were very skilled and caring, checking on me throughout the day and Irem is always there for any questions or if you need anything. The rooms were so clean and modern during my stay and it was also very comfortable. If you bring a companion, they also set up a bed next to the hospital bed and 3 meals a day for their everyday which was a very nice gesture. So good for value! And the team really are the best. What a fantastic experience. Upon landing in Antalya we were met by a private transfer driver who drove us in comfort to the hospital (real hospital, not a small clinic). There I met Irem who welcomed myself and husband warmly and spoke excellent English. She answered all questions and was able to calm my nerves entirely. Irem was incredibly knowledgable - with her own nursing experience - so we knew I was in good hands. In 2 hours of arriving at the (very clean) hospital, I had received a multitude of physical health tests using high-tech equipment - these tests would have taken place over months in the UK so I was impressed! The facilities were clean, tidy and the staff extremely friendly. Our private en-suite rooms were cleaned regularly, with fresh towels and blankets every day, if not more often. My husband who travelled with me was offered 3 meals per day from the hospital. I met the surgeon - who performs bariatric surgery solely - who was very friendly and encouraged questions. He explained, with the help of Irem, what was going to happen and how long I would be in surgery etc. On the day I was taken to surgery, everything went perfectly well. I was monitored by the loveliest nurses very regularly to ensure my post-op condition was good. Nothing was too much trouble, they are so efficient and all procedures were done absolutely as you would see in the UK (just quicker). I had a 1-2-1 conversation with a dietician who explained my wasting journey post-surgery I’m great detail. I was given a giant bag of vitamins, protein powders, literature regarding my surgery - what to expect etc and a comprehensive copy of my medical notes. I was taken by private transfer to the hotel, which was lovely in a fabulous location. Myself and husband were very comfortable throughout. I would recommend this company wholeheartedly. I think there is always the worry about “going abroad” for surgery, but I was so impressed by the efficiency, cleanliness, friendliness and knowledge of the team throughout. I believe you get more than what you pay for and I am very excited to start my new weight loss journey post-surgery. I couldn’t recommend this company enough, I was like any other patient scared and didn’t know what to expect but soon as I got off the plane I was welcomed straight away by a vip taxi that took us to the hospital where I met the amazing Iram, she talked me through everything and explained everything I needed to know. The hospital itself was so clean we had cleaners come in our room about 4 times a day, also they were amazing with our companion and give them meals 3 times a day. I had abit of complications after surgery where I needed 3 blood transfusions but yet again irem, the surgeon and her team made me feel so at ease and not worried. Day 4 we went to a hotel by vip transfers and the hotel was amazing. Since getting home irem messages me or could ring me anytime I need to ask a question. I highly recommend this place to anyone who is wanting any work done. I genuinely couldn't explain how exceptional they were, from the very start to the very end. Super clean and friendly place, who treat you like VIP. Every single staff member genuinely cares for you and is always making sure you are OK. I even had cleaners coming to me all the time and making sure I'm OK or if I needed anything. Also, there was an Amazing lady called Irem who assisted me through everything, and she also kept in contact with my husband who was back home, to tell him everything was OK with me and assured him all the way whilst I was in recovery. But honestly, me explaining my experience is nothing compared to the actual experience. I couldn't recommend them enough

The hospital was lovely and clean. Tests were quick and efficient. Nurses were lovely and polite. The surgeon did a brilliant job, make sure you ask all your questions to put yourself at ease. Irem is on hand for you to call if you have any questions! Hotel was lovely too.

You can go there with your eyes closed. Even before your arrival Irem is very available to answer ALL your questions! The surgeon, the nurses, the staff are very craint. I am more than happy to have taken the plunge because I was very well surrounded and even since my return to France Irem is still available and helpful

I flew to Antalya on the 28th April to have a gastric balloon. It was a really smooth and professional experience. I was met by a chauffeur at the airport, was taken straight to the hospital (clean, functional) and after tests and briefings by the nurse Iram and the surgeon , was taken down for the Op a few hours later. Everything went smoothly and as soon as I was cleared by the nurses I was taken by taxi to the hotel with Iram (nurse/translator/God send). The hotel was beautiful, right on the seafront with amazing views and a spotless, very modern room. I stayed one night and flew home the next morning, again after a private taxi back to the airport was sorted by Iram. I’ve been given a clear eating plan and after some discomfort and sickness (all normal and expected) I’m feeling better than ever. In 10 days I’ve lost 10 pound, and I’m now slowly reintroducing solids and exercise. Highly recommend this company and the team, I really wish I’d done it years ago. Thank you all so much x

My experience with Bridge Health Travel was nothing short of exceptional. Irem was very helpful, and patient and educated me about the process during the decision making. She treated me like VIP, from the moment I said okay I’ll come. All the way to my departure she has been there every step of the way. From booking to arriving to leaving the experience I had was 5 stars. I couldn’t have asked for more. The price was good, the care given was outstanding. Nearly 3 months post op and it’s changed my life. Sleeve surgery was right for me and I am continuing to lose weight slowly to hit my goal long term.

I have recently been for my gastric sleeve over in Antalya with the Lovely Irem and her team. I really couldn't fault them one bit. everything was so smooth from arriving at the airport to the transfers to the hotel to be looked after by the lovely nurses. I had no problems Irem explained everything to me and put me at ease. Wouldn't recommend anybody else. Thank you so much again Irem for all that you did for me.
The next day I was taken down for surgery, everything went perfectly well no complications

What an amazing experience with the most kind, caring and professional team. When me and my son landing in Antalya we were met by a private transfer driver who gave us an ice-cold bottle of water and drove us in comfort to the hospital. On arrival I met Irem who welcomed me and my son, Irem spoke excellent English. She answered all questions, Irem is extremely knowledgeable in her field of work and with her own nursing experience, I knew I was just fine. The first day of arriving at the hospital, I had received all the test of physical health tests using high-tech equipment - these tests were all completed the same day one after another with excellent coordination. The facilities were clean, tidy and the staff extremely friendly, they all took the time to get to know you as a Person, I was never seen or never felt like I was just another one of their patients. The room was spacious and the private en-suite room was cleaned regularly 3-4 times a day, with fresh towels and blankets every day, a bed was provided for my son (who stated is was comfortable) he was also offered 3 meals per day from the hospital. But being a fussy eater Irem took the time out of her day/night to arrange a food delivery to be brought to the hotel for my son, some nights this could be around 8-9 0clock when Irem had already done a full days work! But nothing was to much of an effort for Irem, she didn’t only look after me amazingly she also looked after my 17yr old son. I met the surgeon Dr Belen who was very friendly and encouraged questions. He would then explain all questions and fully explained the full procedure with the help of Irem. Dr Belen is extremely knowledgeable and extremely professional, after meeting him I immediately know I was in good hands. The next day I was taken down for surgery, everything went perfectly well no complications. I was monitored by the most amazing, caring, professional nurses, my son only being 17yrs old got a little frighted whilst I was in recovery, he messaged Irem and Irem rang him and talked him through everything that was happening on the machines (bleeping) was all normal, Irem contacted the nurses on duty and arrange for them to spend a bit of time with my son for reassurance Nothing was too much trouble for them. A couple of days later I had a 1-2-1 with the dietician who explained all information to me in great depth. my wasting journey post-surgery I’m great detail. I was given a bag of aftercare materials, these included vitamins, protein powders, literature regarding my surgery and full copy of my medical notes along with a DVD of the surgery. Being in the medical profession myself and going through this experience. I would highly recommend this company. If you are looking for kind, caring, professional, dignified care then don’t hesitate you have found the right team with Irem and her team. there is always the worry about “going abroad” for surgery, I had them worries and doubt myself, but if there is one thing I can say is you really don’t need to worry, I spent so much time leading to the operation worrying when I didn’t need to. I am 10 days post-op, and couldn’t be happier than I am right now, iv had no complications at all, drinking fine, I’m currently on the thicker fluid stage so made homemade soups they are going down just fine. I haven’t had any pain relief since leaving the hospital, not because I wasn’t supples them , I was but I haven’t needed them.

Can not fault bridge health travel at all! Had my gastric sleeve on 10/1/2023 after irem being recommended to me and I'm so glad I did! I was anxious excited, nervous scared every emotion you can think of but was really kept at ease the whole time and after surgery the care was incredible, anything I needed was given! And now I'm home the aftercare hasn't stopped I can message any time if I have a query!
